Kwanzaa
Kwanzaa is a non sacred African American Holiday that findd from December twenty-sixth to January 1st. Created in 1966 by Dr. Mulana (Ron) K benga chair of the Organization US in addition chair of NAKO (National Association of Kawaida Organizations). Dr. Karenga created Kwanzaa to establish an African American usance as well as to give blacks an opportunity to celebrate ourselves and our history. Dr. Karenga stated his goal was To give black people an alternative to the existing holiday where we imitate the practice of dominate fiat Kwanzaa was established as a means to help African Americans reconnect with their African cultural and historical heritage by unite in meditation and study of African traditions and common humanistic principles.
The name Kwanzaa derives from the Swahili phrase matunda ya kwanza, meaning first fruits. Kwanzaa celebrates what its founder called The 7 Principles of Kwanzaa (Nguzu Saba) in swahili translates to The Seven Principles of Blackness. These seven principles comprise Kawaida,(African Philosophy) a Swahili term for tradition and reason. Each of the seven days of Kwanzaa is devote to one of the following principles.
Umoja (Unity) To strive for and maintain unity in the family partnership nation and race. Kujichagulia (Self-Determination) To define ourselves, name ourselves, create for ourselves and converse for ourselves. Ujima (Collective Work and Responsiblility) To work together build and maintain and amend our own community. Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics) To build and maintain our own businesses support for each one other by spending within our own community and profiting together. Nia (Purpose) Having a sense of purpose to make our collective sweat in the building and developing of our community in apparent movement to restore our people to traditional greatness.
