Plato - the republic

The democratic form of organization is most familiar to the raw western citizen. However, there are many forms of communism and dictatorships which hold out around the world today. The ancient philosopher Plato protests that a royalist oligarchy, which calls upon an elite group group for governance, is the best possible form of government. However, based on vagueness in terms and overgeneralizations Plato creates a flaw in his telephone circuit and weakens its validity. Through the elimination of social class systems and based on the legal separation between Government and economy it may be seen that the platonic drone will not lead to tyranny. eventually by overlooking intellects and normative tendencies in democratic societies Plato makes absurd assumptions about the certainty of a Tyrant rule. Therefore, although Plato produces an interesting line of business given his era, as it applies today the argument cannot stand, because of modern, education, societal participation, and separation of government and economy, commonwealth is the most suitable form of government today.

In The Republic Plato voices a preference toward a monarchist form of oligarchy. He suggests desire for a government that depends on an elite group of philosopher kings known as The Guardians.



These Guardians would practice self-selection of successors and would place at the top of Platos ideal societal class, therefore creating an aura of untouchable supremacy. In western democratic bon ton today, many citizens would refute this Platonic ideal by stating that democracy is the best form of government. However, when Plato considers a democracy he focuses his fear towards the citizens of a democracy, referring to them as drones. He exclaims that the, drones [of the democratic society] buzz with supernumerary appetites, and desires and suggests that, the worst among these drones soon become leaders (18L).
